I'm particapating in a readalong in June!

I will be participating in the read-along in June with the wonderful Ange. In this video, she explains what is going to happen throughout the month.

North and South

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/156538.North_and_South?ac=1&from_search=true

When her father leaves the Church in a crisis of conscience, Margaret Hale is uprooted from her comfortable home in Hampshire to move with her family to the north of England. Initially repulsed by the ugliness of her new surroundings in the industrial town of Milton, Margaret becomes aware of the poverty and suffering of the local mill workers and develops a passionate sense of social justice. This is intensified by her tempestuous relationship with the mill-owner and self-made man, John Thornton, as their fierce opposition over his treatment of his employees masks a deeper attraction.

Until next time, happy reading!

Books I finished in May 2018

May was a really good reading month for me. A lot of my progress was achieved by audiobooks. So I really like the Nextory App. If any of you want to have a good app for audiobooks, I really recommend this one. Anyway, on to the books! That's the reason you're reading my blog after all.

Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1)

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10818853-fifty-shades-of-grey

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.

Rating: 3/5 stars
My thoughts:
** spoiler alert **

 Problematic things:
Repetitive
The fact that Ana says that Mr Grey is a stalker & then says; oh but he’s so beautiful.
All the characters say that they are all beautiful all the time & they are not well developed.
The story goes from cliches to new cliches.
Did not like any of the characters.

Better things:

I enjoyed the sex parts & the relationship between Ana & Mr Grey.

War Horse (War Horse, #1)

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/792161.War_Horse

A powerful tale of war, redemption and a hero's journey.

In 1914, Joey, a beautiful bay-red foal with a distinctive cross on his nose, is sold to the army and thrust into the midst of the war on the Western Front. With his officer, he charges toward the enemy, witnessing the horror of the battles in France. But even in the desolation of the trenches, Joey's courage touches the soldiers around him and he is able to find warmth and hope. But his heart aches for Albert, the farmer's son he left behind. Will he ever see his true master again?

Raiting: 5/5 stars
My thoughts:
It was so good! I wish there were more pages though. I’d love to read more books like this one. I recommend it to everyone!

Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush, #1)

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6339664-hush-hush

A SACRED OATH
A FALLEN ANGEL
A FORBIDDEN LOVE

Romance was not part of Nora Grey's plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life.

Raiting: 3/5 stars
My thoughts:
Full of tropes, very slow in the beginning & I didn't find any of the characters that interesting. I thought I would like it more than I did.

Paris for One and Other Stories

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29430049-paris-for-one-and-other-stories

Nell is twenty-six and has never been to Paris. She's never even been on a romantic weekend away--to anywhere--before. Traveling abroad isn't really her thing. But when Nell's boyfriend fails to show up for their mini-vacation, she has the opportunity to prove everyone--including herself--wrong. Alone in Paris, Nell finds a version of herself she never knew existed: independent and intrepid. Could this turn out to be the most adventurous weekend of her life? Funny, charming, and irresistible, Paris for One is quintessential Jojo Moyes--as are the other stories that round out the collection.

Raiting: 3/5
My thoughts: I loved the first & the last story in this book. But I felt like it missed something.

Vem bryr sig?

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35441934-vem-bryr-sig

Raiting: 5/5
 My thoughts:
This book gave me such a boost. I’m so happy that I stopped hurting animals & thanks to this book I feel more proud than ever before for making that decision. She’s wonderful & I absolutely love her!

Arthur: The dog who crossed the jungle to find a home

Goodreads:  https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/30230923-arthur

When you are racing 435 miles through the jungles and mountains of South America, the last thing you need is a stray dog tagging along. But that's exactly what happened to Mikael Lindnord, captain of a Swedish adventure racing team, when he threw a scruffy but dignified mongrel a meatball one afternoon.
When they left the next day, the dog followed. Try as they might, they couldn't lose him - and soon Mikael realised that he didn't want to. Crossing rivers, battling illness and injury, and struggling through some of the toughest terrain on the planet, the team and the dog walked together towards the finish line, where Mikael decided he would save Arthur and bring him back to his family in Sweden, whatever it took.

My raiting: 5/5 stars
My thoughts:
A really touching story between two souls who found safety & love. A really sweet story.

Ready Player One (Ready Player One, #1)

 Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12600138-ready-player-one

In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines, puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them. When Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win—and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape.

My thoughts:
I loved the references in this book. It was a real reminder of my young self. Great characters & a wonderful time.

The Light Between Oceans

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13158800-the-light-between-oceans?ac=1&from_search=true

A captivating, beautiful, and stunningly accomplished debut novel that opens in 1918 Australia - the story of a lighthouse keeper and his wife who make one devastating choice that forever changes two worlds.

Australia, 1926. After four harrowing years fighting on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns home to take a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day's journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season and shore leaves are granted every other year at best, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby's cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

Tom, whose records as a lighthouse keeper are meticulous and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel has taken the tiny baby to her breast. Against Tom's judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them.

Until next time, happy reading!

Nextory

Hi my dear bookish friends,

Bildresultat för nextory
I have some good news. Yesterday I decided to get the App Nextory. Now I can listen to audiobooks & read e-books as much as i want. I have already started using it everyday. I usually listen to books at 2X speed, it's pretty fast which I really enjoy.  Unfortunately I don't really like to read e-books on my phone. It's a personal preference. Hopefully I can finish books quicker & I also stopped annotating, it made me fall in to slumps. Maybe I'll pick it up when I have more time than I have now.
